Miracles....

I know most of the skeptics don't believe in miracles. This probably won't convince you, but here goes:

Yesterday I received a phone call informing me that one of my favorite cousins was on her deathbed. An aneurysm burst in her brain, she was on life support, and the doctors said she could not survive. My extended family spent the last twenty four hours in mourning waiting for her to pass away.

My cousin is a dear woman - a Christian fundamentalist - and I told my relatives that I wasn't giving up hope yet. Knowing this woman as I do - I felt that if God couldn't do a miracle for her, than I doubt anyone could get one. She is simply the nicest person I have ever met - loving, sweet, and very kind. I'll admit I was depressed - but I still held out hope that God would come through for her.

I received another call late this afternoon saying she has woken up, is speaking, and moving.

The doctors can't figure out what happened. The "impossible" has occurred. I can only attribute this to the mercy of God. Hopefully, she will continue to recover fully.

Just wanted to share my wonderful news. Things like this don't happen every day. I am so very happy.

I know this won't convince the skeptics that miracles can happen - but boy, this is sure something!

Glad to hear that your cousin is on the mend, and I hope she recovers fully.

You said, "Things like this don't happen every day." But actually, things like this do happen every day. There are many examples of spontaneous and unexpected recovery from injury and illness.

Extremely unlikely things do occur. With 6 billion people alive, we should expect 6 things to happen every day for which the chance is one in a billion per day. The occasional lone survivor of a plane crash, or someone who survives a high fall, or someone who is revived after drowning.

Long odds do not make a miracle. A miracle would be the occurance of something which is impossible, something which violates the laws of physics.
