God doesn't want me to have a foreskin,
hey? Well, the argument goes, then why did he, in his INFINITE wisdom
design my thinggadoolie (a medical term)
with one? What was he, a pre-vert?
Most pediatricians in CIVILIZED countries
say that there is no advantage to circumcision provided the child does
not
have a LOT of phimosis (constriction
of the foreskin). Many children have inconsequential phimosis until age
5 or even
later and as long as they have no infections
or problems should NOT be circumcised. After age 10 or so, ALL male
children should be able to fully withdraw
the foreskin but even if they can't it doesn't mean circumcision-- simple
stretching of the foreskin or a comparatively
mild plastic surgery procedure can fix things. Dr. Dean Edell has a whole
lot of stuff on this somewhere on the
web.
Circumcision reduces sexual sensitivity
it is said, I suppose based on reports of people who had the procedure
as
adults.
There are some hygienic benefits if one
doesn't care to wash. The surgeon general says that if you don't wash your
penis, your social life may vary.
Otherwise, with good hygiene (Hi, Jean!)it
probably makes little difference. Can we archive this? It's the fourth
or fifth
time.
As to what Fred said (it made no diff
2000 years ago when people never bathed anyway *yuch*) I have no
research-based opinion. I sort of think
it might have made one. After all there would be expected to be a lower
rate of
nasty "anaerobic" infections of the
prepuce and possibly a lower rate of veneral diseases like syphilis and
gonorrhea
also. Disease transmission for bacteria/spirochete-caused
entities is promote by warm wet slimy places like the
*yuch* underside of an unretractable
foreskin. Of course white blood cells and antibodies can also accumulate
there
*yuch yuch* which is why I am not sure.
Now, I am gonna have breakfast... I think.
CAN WE ARCHIVE THIS? PLEASE?
